What is behind the word Targa, in the 60's, Porsche wanted to make a fully open convertible for the US market but had some doubts about the NHTSA (US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) would be agree. So the 911 Targa had a stainless steel clad roll bar to improve the security of the car. The name comes from Targa Florio, open road endurance automobile race held in Sicily between 1906 and 1977.
