In May, at Monaco, this is the month of 911 Carrera 2.7 RS. After 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight (sold by RM Sotheby's), Bonhams, on its side, will sell through auction an 1973 2.7 RS Touring 'Sunroof' Coupé for around $900,000.
History of the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS
The 1973 Carrera RS is the Porsche car by excellence with its famous duck-tailed.In 1972 in order to compete in Group 4 (regulations for cars in sportscar racing), Porsche needed to produced at least 500 cars in one year with an 2.7 liter engine. The Porsche engineers installed the 2.681 cc SOHC air-cooled V6 engine in a 911 shell with somes modifications for wheels and tires. The ducktail spoiler was added to reduce rear-end lift at high speeds.
2 models was proposed to customer the Touring M472 or the lightweight M471 (more racing oriented). And Tony Lapine, GM and Porsche designer, has the idea of the negative Carrera graphic on the car's flank. A legend is born.
Technical Specification
With Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the 2.681 cc SOHC V6 engine delivers 210 hp (20 hp more the standard 911 S) with five speed manual transmission.


The Carrera RS 2.7 is high on the list of every car collector and on my list :-).
